Happy St. David's Day

Source

It's the first day of March!!! Which, in Wales, means that it is St. David's Day! St. David is the patron saint of Wales, died in 589 (allegedly, but there seems to be some evidence of the Elvis phenomenon occurring throughout history, so this could be a conspiracy/cover-up), and is symbolized by the wearing of either a leek or daffodil. (I have just been alerted by Chris that it is also National Pancake Day in the US. I am a huge fan of pancakes. In fact, I would count them up there among my favorite foods. Unfortunately, I can no longer eat them and, strangely, my other favorite foods of brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes just don't elicit the same joy. :( Ah well, such is life.)

Anyway, it's March! What does this mean? Actually, not all that much. March is not a very exciting month. It comes 'in like a lion', goes 'out like a lamb' and, in the meantime, just annoys the heck out of everyone by being indecisive as to whether it wants to prolong winter conditions or align itself with the spring camp.

At the same time, March is the month in which such amazing holidays as Mardi Gras, St. Patrick's Day (which, contrary to popular belief, is not well-celebrated here in the UK. The major celebrations originated within the Irish communities of the US and Ireland has since co-opted the associated mayhem as its ow.), and, occasionally (but not this year), Easter fall. So, in a good year, you get beads/chicory coffee/beignet, Guinness (sometimes green), and chocolate eggs! Viewed in this light, March is absolutely fantastic!(I'm not a fan of any of these things, so March isn't exactly the month for me.)

But did you know that these events also take place during March?

March is:
-Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month (After traumatizing some of my readers with the 'crazy runner' photo, I've decided to be nice and spare you an image for colorectal cancer month.)
-Texas Independence Day (March 2: and perhaps it would have been better for all of us if Texas had remained independent)

-International Women's Day (March 8)
-White Day (Asia, March 14: An alternative Valentine's Day where the women give gifts to the men)
Source
-Pi Day (March 14: celebrating the mathematical constant of Pi (3.1415926...) (Side note: Did You Know that July 22nd is Pi Approximation Day? Now you do.)
Just a note
-Ides of March (March 15: Most famous for its association with the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC by Marcus Junius Brutus et al.)
-World Water Day (March 22)
-Day of Polish-Hungarian Friendship (March 23)

It's been a long day, let's just leave it at that.
